Gary Job Corps’ Offers Helping Hands At The San Marcos Public Library

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

Gary Job Corps’  Helping Hands for the San Marcos Public Library

For over 20 years Gary Job Corps students and staff have assisted with the bi-annual library book sales, sponsored by the “Friends of the Library.”

The “Friends of the Library”, for over 51 years, used the sale of used books from the San Marcos Public Library as a fundraiser for the library.  The goal this year is to raise $1 million for the Library extension building  project. 

Diane Insley, Library Director, stated that “we could not have been this successful over the years without the help of the students and staff from the Gary Job Corps Center for the past 20 years.” 

Further she stated, “We will be selling over 4,000 books and 3,000 DVD’s for the library fundraiser, a formidable task without the help from Gary Job Corps, thanks Gary Job Corps.”  

Volunteers  from Gary Job Corps were students: Kenndrick Walker, Gavin Williams, Brandon Smith, Samuel Cain, Jame Howard, Kahnon Bennett, Brian Little Jr., Kamuwela Carbonell-Dias; staff members: Todd Watson, Titus Adeosun; community members:  Michael Coronado, Brandon Pharris, Charles Turner, Sarah Natal; library staff: Diane Insley, Library Director, and Susan Smith, Outreach Manager.
