5th Annual “Show & Shine” Car Show in Martindale, Texas

For 5 years the Gary Job Corps Corrections cadets under the leadership of Major Troy Oldbury have assisted with the crowd and traffic control for the “Show & Shine.”

Eddie Villanueva, the event organizer, said that the “Show & Shine” gets better each year, we would not have been so successful without the help from the cadets from the Gary Job Corps Center”, further, he stated “we share the proceeds with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale.”

The partnership with the city of Martindale has been ongoing for over 15 years, the logo for the city was designed by a student from the CNC Machine Shop, cement and welding students constructed ADA ramps at City Hall, cadets from the Corrections/Security classes have assisted with the 150th Anniversary Parade, Chili-Cook off competitions, Jamaica’s held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church,  Independence Day Parades, and Car Shows.

Gary Job Corps Workforce Industry Council 2018

Over 50 representatives representing over 40 companies  attended the Gary Job Corps Workforce Industry Council meeting held at the Gary Conference Center.

Employers visited their respective vocations to review the curriculum to ensure that they are being taught to industry standards, also to make recommendations when required.

Patti Lankford, Gary Center Director, welcomed employers stating “We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedules to review our curriculum to ensure our compliance to industry standards.  Many of you  are Intern sites for our students and employers of our graduates, we appreciate your commitment to the Gary Job Corps Program.” 

The Gary Job Corps Center trains 1460 students over its 800 campus in over 20 vocations divided between the schools of Construction/Manufacturing and Health and Support. 

Additionally, students can receive their driver license, GED, or high School diploma.
