Gary Job Corps Students Join Community At Downtown Mermaid Promenade

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

The Job Corps program is authorized by Title I-C of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (supersedes WIA 1998). For more information about the Job Corps program at a national level, please visit their Official Public Web Site.

Downtown Mermaid Promenade

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra visited before the parade with the GJCC’s HOPE Group (Helping Other People Excel) that held banners for the Mermaid Society during the parade. Gary Job Corps Center (GJCC) hosted their first monthly graduation for 2019. 

Guest speaker J.R. Gonzales, Executive Director of the Buda Chamber of Commerce and Founder and President of JRG Communications was the guest speaker that gave a very touching motivational speech. 

Cheyenne Suda-Morales, student speaker spoke about what life was like when she got to GJCC. Airius Washington, student sang the “National Anthem” to start the ceremony and “I believe I can Fly” during the intermission.
