GBRA Hires New Executive Manager of Environmental Science And Community Affairs

The EAHCP is a management plan implemented by multiple stakeholder groups to provide for stewardship of regional resources and management of the Edwards Aquifer. 

SEGUIN—The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) announced it has hired Nathan Pence as Executive Manager of Environmental Science and Community Affairs.

He will be responsible for the management of GBRA’s environmental stewardship programs associated with the entire river basin.  Additionally, Pence will oversee GBRA’s community relations.

Prior to working for GBRA, Pence served as the Threatened and Endangered Species Executive Director for the Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) in San Antonio, where he facilitated and managed the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Program (EAHCP). 

The EAHCP is a management plan implemented by multiple stakeholder groups to provide for stewardship of regional resources and management of the Edwards Aquifer. 

Before his term with the EAA, Pence worked for the City of New Braunfels collaborating with local tourism officials and environmentalists to improve economic development opportunities, while protecting the integrity of the natural resources.

“Nathan is a very well-qualified environmental scientist, but he also possesses a natural ability to communicate and collaborate with elected officials and stakeholders alike,” said GBRA General Manager/CEO Kevin Patteson. “In his role as program manager for the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan (EAHCP), he excelled at managing the very complicated research work associated with protection of endangered species in the Edwards Aquifer ecosystem. At the same time, he also did an outstanding job in coordinating all of the EAHCP partners’ needs. We are very much looking forward to putting Nathan’s skills to work on GBRA’s environmental programs.”

Pence earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Aquatic Biology from Texas State University.
