Governor Abbott Releases Texas Homeland Security Strategic Plan 2015-2020

In coordination with the Texas Office of Homeland Security and the Texas Homeland Security Council, Governor Greg Abbott today released the Texas Homeland Security Strategic Plan (2015-2020) to outline a vision for homeland security in the future and address emerging security challenges in order to best position the state to prevent, protect against, mitigate the effects of, respond to and recover from potential attacks and disasters.

“The State of Texas faces a broad range of threats and security hazards each day,” Governor Abbott said. “Now more than ever, it is imperative the state fulfill its most solemn responsibility of protecting communities and ensuring the security of all Texans, while simultaneously respecting  the right for individual privacy, civil rights and civil liberties.”

This high-level homeland security plan provides guidance on issues such as an unsecured border; the influence of criminal organizations; the risk of terrorist attacks, cyber-attacks, and threats to critical infrastructure; industrial accidents; infectious disease outbreaks; and natural disasters.

The Texas Office of Homeland Security is charged with coordinating implementation of this plan.
