Grande Awards Grant To Texas State University Program Mathworks

SAN MARCOS, TX – Grande Communications, the Texas-based broadband communications company, has awarded Mathworks at Texas State University a $1,050 grant to support the 2016 Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC). This grant will provide support for student scholarships, ensuring that all admitted students can attend regardless of their financial background.  Mathworks provides students opportunities to do higher-level mathematics while developing their creativity and problem solving abilities.

This grant was made possible by the Grande Cares Club, an employee-based giving program that has distributed over $2 million to local Texas communities. The program focuses on basic human services, education, and positive initiatives for at-risk youth. Grande Cares Club members Julie Clayton and Ola Young presented the check to Mathworks on June 22, and were able to meet many of the campers at the HSMC.

The Mathworks HSMC is a six-week residential program for talented high school students who have a passion for mathematics and learning.  Each summer, 60 students are invited to attend the HSMC, held on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos.  Students are taught by Texas State mathematics faculty, mentored by undergraduate counselors, and share in the joy of exploring mathematics with their peers.  Thanks to the support provided by foundations, corporations, and individuals, students who would not otherwise be able to attend are provided mathematical learning opportunities at the HSMC.
