Guadalupe Street bike, pedestrian improvements underway

Last week the City of San Marcos Engineering and Capital Improvements department began construction on safety improvements along Guadalupe Street. Work is expected to be complete in August 2021.

The project includes adding bike signals for the proposed bike lane from University Drive to Grove Street, constructing new sidewalks, and installing landscaping and pedestrian lighting between Martin Luther King Drive and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

Detour signs have been installed in the area for drivers, however construction work will be completed in a manner that provides minimal disruptions to regular traffic. Erosion control equipment has also been placed at intersections included in the project.

The City hired New Age General Contractors, Inc. of New Braunfels to complete construction work on the $976,500 project. City Transportation crews will complete final bike lane striping and sign installation for the project.

For more information on this project contact the Engineering & Capital Improvements Department at 512.393.8130. or visit http://www.sanmarcostx.gov/3363/Guadalupe-St-Improvements—Bike-Lane-Si.
