New Bobcat Football Offensive Line Coach and member of Coaching Staff announced

SAN MARCOS – Texas State football continues to round out its coaching staff as Brian Hamilton, previously the tight ends coach, has moved to oversee the offensive line while Boone Feldt has been promoted to tight ends coach, head coach Jake Spavital announced.

Hamilton slides back to a familiar role of offensive line coach where he has been stationed for most of his career at the college level. He was the offensive line coach at Murray State for three years before joining Texas State as the tight ends coach in 2019.

“I’ve had the opportunity to know and work with Coach Hamilton for years now, and we are excited to have him step into the role as the offensive line coach,” said Spavital. “He has already had a positive impact with this group of young men, based on his background and experience in offensive line play.”

A highly successful high school coach in the Bay Area of California, Hamilton moved to the college ranks as a quality control coach on offense for Cal under Sonny Dykes in 2015 and 2016 and primarily worked with the offensive line. He and Spavital served on the same coaching staff in 2016 when Spavital was offensive coordinator.

After his time at Cal, Hamilton transitioned to Murray State, serving as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator in 2017 before becoming the assistant head coach and offensive line coach in 2018 and 2019.

At the high school level, Hamilton and his teams were a consistent championship-contending presence. In 11 seasons at Concord High School (CA), he won 81 games, reached the North Coast Section playoffs in each of the last seven campaigns, and was named the Contra Costa Times Coach of the Year in 2010 after leading the team to a Division II section title.

Hamilton played collegiately at Pasadena City College (1995-96) and SUNY Cortland (1999-2000) before starting his coaching career as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Southern Springs High School in Aurora, N.Y. He moved back to California after the one season and worked for two years as the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Clayton Valley High School in Concord, Calif.

A product of Hays High School in nearby Buda, Texas, Feldt was moved up to tight ends coach after serving as an offensive graduate assistant for the last three seasons with the Bobcats. Mainly assisting with the offensive line, Feldt worked with a group that saw four offensive linemen earn five All-Sun Belt honors. Dalton Cooper became a two-time honoree, including third team honors last year. Kyle Hergel (2021), Russell Baker (2020) and Aaron Brewer (2019) have also been all-conference selections in the time span.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Coach Feldt be promoted to our tight ends coach,” said Spavital. “Boone has deep ties in Texas with his father being a phenomenal high school football coach. Boone has grown into a great football coach himself in the past few years here in San Marcos, and it was a no-brainer to give him this new opportunity.”

Feldt got his start in college coaching with UT-Permian Basin, where he was on the staff with the upstart program for four years. In 2017 and 2018, he served as the offensive line coach, while in 2015 and 2016, he was the tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach.

The first UTPB alum football coach in that program’s history, Feldt attended the school after his playing career was cut short due to spinal surgery. His collegiate playing career started at North Texas.

He was an assistant offensive line coach at Odessa Permian High School while in college, working for his father, Blake – a longtime high school coach in the state and former college coach at Texas Tech and App State.

Born in Boone, N.C., Feldt was an All-Centex selection and an Associated Press All-State selection as a junior at Pilot Point (TX), which went on to win the state championship after a 15-0 season. He played for Hays High his senior year.

Texas State opens spring practice on March 1.
