Hays CISD Bids Farewell To Jump Rope Team, Celebrates Bands And Choirs UIL Competition Awards

Hays Consolidated Independent School District strives to “nurture students to become extraordinary citizens through unique, personal educational experiences through an innovative community of learners while celebrating our diversity and legacy.”

Hays CISD is home to two four-year high schools, six middle schools (6-8 grade), fourteen elementary schools, an alternative high school of choice and disciplinary center.

Hays CISD has over 20,000 students enrolled between its 24 campuses according to the district’s website.

Here is a quick look at what Hays CISD students and staff were up to the week of March 11 thru March 18. 

On March 15, Janice Mangrum turned the last rope for her jump rope team at Carpenter Hill Elementary.

Mangrum has had teams at each elementary school she has worked at in Hays CISD for the last 23 years.

These teams have performed at the high schools, local colleges, other elementary schools and Marbridge.

The performance brought this long running tradition to an end. Janice was celebrated today with family, longtime friends, previous jumpers, and her final CHES jump rope team.

The district said it was an emotional goodbye to this extraordinary program.

Hays CISD Choirs and Bands attended the annual UIL competition and rocked the stage. Several Bands and choirs including McCormick Middle School Band, Hays Varsity Women’s Choir, Hays High School Chorale, HHS Combined Non-Varsity Treble Choir and Dahlstrom MS Wind Ensemble took home sweepstakes trophies to grace the band and choir rooms.

Rebel Men’s choir, Dahlstrom, Barton and Wallace middle school varsity bands and the Barton MS Symphonic Band took home straight one ratings this UIL.

The district congratulated all of the performers for their hard work and outstanding performances.

Gillenwaters, Anthony Douglas, Rylan Hanks & their coach Mr. McMillan placed 1st in hands on programming & 3rd place team in the novice division at the Vandegrift HS UIL computer science contest.
