Hays CISD Names New Dahlstrom MS Principal

Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright announced Monday, June 22, that Dedrah Ginn, current Dahlstrom Middle School assistant principal, will serve as the new principal for the campus beginning with the 2020-2021 school year.

The announcement followed approval by the Board of Trustees at its June business meeting. Ginn brings with her more than a decade’s worth of experience in teaching and campus leadership.

“Dedrah is a leader who knows the Dahlstrom campus community and who will continue to deliver exemplary results,” said Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright. “Her passion is student achievement and creating a culture of success. She is an amazing fit to lead the campus into its next chapter.”

Ginn began her career in education at Patterson Middle School in Killeen ISD as a math teacher and team leader.

In 2014, she was promoted to the assistant principal post at Patterson. During her tenure at that campus, she led the math department to a more than 90% passing rate on state assessments.

Additionally, she was instrumental in making tremendous progress in improving special education state assessment scores.

In 2016, she was hired as an assistant principal at Dahlstrom Middle School.

She has been instrumental in helping the campus achieve high marks on state assessments and maintaining a positive campus culture. In 2018, she was named the Hays CISD Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year.

She has also been named a Barnes and Noble Secondary Teacher of the Year finalist, the Killeen ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year finalist, and has earned many other teaching awards.

“Student success is built upon positive relationships established with teachers, counselors, administrators and school staff,” said Ginn. “These relationships combined with a positive learning environment, engaging lessons, the exploration of new ideas, and the gradual increase in student confidence are the recipe for success and are the reason I believe every student can learn!”

Ginn earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University. Her Bachelor of Science is in biomedical science.

Her Masters in Education is in Educational Administration. Ginn also holds a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Texas.

Ginn replaces Dr. Michael Watson as principal. Earlier this summer, Dr. Watson was named the principal of Simon Middle School in Hays CISD.
