Hays CISD Reminds Community January Is School Board Appreciation Month

January is School Board Recognition Month, and Hays Consolidated ISD joins other districts across the state as they honor the countless contributions of these locally elected advocates for public education.

School board members come from all walks of life. The men and women serving Hays CISD are: Merideth Keller, president; Esperanza Orosco, vice president; Vanessa Petrea, secretary; Willie Tenorio, Jr.; Teresa Tobias; Dr. Michael Sánchez; and Will McManus.

Meet the Hays CISD School Board Members

Serving as a crucial link between the community and classroom, this board is responsible for a general operating budget of more than $168 million, 20,000 students, 3,000 employees, and 25 campuses.

At the Board business meeting in January 2019, the Hays CISD Honor Choir will perform for the members of the Hays CISD Board of Trustees. Each member of the Board will also receive a new Hays CISD appreciation shirt, collectively provided by the district’s campuses and administration.

Additionally, to recognize the service of each of the volunteer members of the Board, the district is placing age-appropriate books about service and leadership in all of its campuses to be available in the libraries in their honor. This year’s set of books teaches about the contributions of civil rights hero Cesar Chavez.
