Hays CISD’s Helping Our Neighbors Spotlight

In Hays Consolidated Independent School District, nothing is more important than helping neighbors.

Hays CISD’s ‘Helping Our Neighbors’ program strives to help families in need by connecting them with the community.  

“Hays CISD is a caring community. When people are in need, our parents, teachers, students and staff are always eager to help.”

The school district regularly posts and shares the stories of members of the community and their students and families, who need help through difficult times.

A benefit will be held March 23rd at 6 PM at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park for Jacob Hill, a Hays High School student, who suffered a head and brain injury in a car accident on Feb. 3.

Hill has undergone brain surgery and was in a medically induced coma.

According to the latest update, Jacob is on a modified diet and has taken a few steps with an “old man walker as he calls it.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover his medical expenses.

Lehman High School Freshman, Bryan Crider, and Fuentes Elementary School 5^th grader, Abigail Crider’s younger sister, Paxton, has been hospitalized at Dell Children’s since February.

Paxton took ill suddenly last month and was rushed to the hospital in Septic shock. She has had 10 trips to the hospital room and will be going back on May 1.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Paxton to help cover medical expenses and further care expenses and provide updates.

• Paxton will continue to be in the hospital for 3-4 more weeks.
• She will need physical therapy.
• There will be a need for education related to a new ileostomy and use of an external bag.
• She will be weak and at risk for infection so she will need to have home care.
• She will need to have multiple specialty doctor appointments and continued surgeries.
• Her diet will have to be adjusted and closely monitored to ensure she is receiving the correct amounts of all the needed nutrients.

According to Medical News Today, Septic Shock is a severe and potentially fatal condition, which occurs in severe sepsis.

Sepsis is a condition caused by the body’s response to an infection where the body’s response to the chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight the infection is out of balance and triggers changes that can damage multiple organs.

Emma Henke is the four-year-old daughter of Chapa Middle School Science teacher, Amanda Henke, and Wallace Middle School Math teacher, Jason Henke, who was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on June 25, 2018.

According to the GoFundMe Page’s latest update, she is strong, and family and friends are confident she will win the fight.
