Hays Co. Comm: Need Awareness Of Children’s Mental Health Issues

The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed May 3-9 as Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week in Hays County.

According to the proclamation issued by the Court, one in five children have a mental illness but on average only 50 percent receive needed services. It is estimated that 70 percent of youth in the juvenile justice system have a mental health condition.

“The need to address the complex mental health needs of our young people is paramount in our society,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley said in sponsoring the proclamation. “The Scheib Center of San Marcos and Hill Country MHDD have our deep appreciation for their focus on the mental health needs of children, youth and families in our community.”
