Hays Co. Commissioners Thanks Juries For Service

May 2-6 Proclaimed Jury Appreciation Week

The Hays County Commissioners Court thanked the thousands of citizens who serve on juries for their service and proclaimed May 2-6 as Jury Appreciation Week in Hays County. According to the proclamation, “Jury service is indispensable to the justice system and our courts depend upon citizens to serve as jurors.”

County Court-at-Law #2 Judge David Glickler told the Court that in Hays County the jury process has been refined so be as smooth as possible for juries and he appreciates the willingness of Hays County residents to serve.

The right to a trial by jury is a core value of American citizenship and jury service is as fundamental to our democracy as the right to vote, according to the proclamation. Thomas Jefferson once said, “I consider trial by jury as the only anchor ever yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution.”
