Hays County Commissioners Canvass November 2020 Election Results

Staff Reports

It’s official! The Hays County Commissioners Court approved the canvass results of the County Races and Proposition A on Tuesday.

The canvass is only for the results of the countywide and precinct races for County Court at Law #3, County Sheriff, County Tax Assessor-Collector, Commissioner, Pct. 1, Commissioner, Pct. 3, Justice of Peace, Pct. 1, Pl. 1, Constable Pct. 1, Constable Pct. 2, Constable, Pct. 3, Constable Pct. 4 and Constable Pct. 5.

Jennifer Anderson, the Elections Administrator, noted that this election was a historic event for Hays County.

Of the county’s 153,614 registered voters, 109,107 (71.3%) cast a ballot this November. Nearly 100,000 voters took to the polls during the early voting period.

According to Anderson, 12,548 voters submitted ballots by mail with 683 limited ballots, two emergency ballots, and 2,113 provisional ballots.

Anderson said 434 provisional ballots were counted and most belonged to voters who had applied for a mail-in-ballot but didn’t bring it back to the polling location; the provisional ballots were counted on Monday by the Elections Ballot Board when the voter’s mail-in ballot had not been received.

Commissioners thanked the Elections Office for their hard work and praised everyone involved for how smoothly everything had run despite COVID-19.

In Hays County, the Democrats held the majority with Democratic candidates winning the majority of state and local races; the exceptions were the U.S. Representative District 25, Hays County Sheriff, Tax Assessor-Collector, Commissioner Precinct 3, Constable Precinct 3, Constable Precinct 4, and Constable Precinct 5 (Unopposed) races.
