Hays County Commissioners Court Proclaims Constitution Week, Thanks DAR Members

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – At its September 18 meeting, the Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed the week of September 17-21 as Constitution Week in Hays County, and thanked the Wimberley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for the work they do in helping residents, especially school children, understand the value of the U.S. Constitution.

The proclamation reads in part: The Constitution of the United States of America, the guardian of our liberties, embodies the principles of limited government in a Republic dedicated to rule by law.

DAR’s mission is “to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.” Members go to schools during Constitution Week to talk about the U.S. Constitution and the founding fathers, sharing stories and even presenting short skits.

DAR members have also made historical preservation one of their main efforts this year. The DAR has placed pink granite markers along the Kings Highway – El Camino Real.

There are several markers along Highway 21, including one at the San Marcos Regional Airport. Other markers are at the intersection of FM 150 and Highway 21 and at the Uhland Cemetery on Highway 21. Information for those not familiar with El Camino Real is available here.
