Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 12-15 as Police Week in Hays County to honor the dedicated law enforcement officers who safeguard the rights and freedoms of Hays County residents.
The public is invited to a memorial ceremony in the rotunda of the Hays County Government Center at noon on Wednesday, May 15, to honor local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2018. Sheriff Gary Cutler will speak at the ceremony, which is hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police, Hill Country Lodge #23.
The proclamation issued by the Court honors all law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives in the line of duty, and thanks them and their families. Five officers throughout the years have died serving Hays County – Deputy Sheriff Henry C. Banks (Hays County Sheriff’s Office), Night Watchman Henry H. Joslin (Kyle Police Department), Deputy Sheriff John S. Davis, Jr. (Hays County Sheriff’s Office), Trooper Randall W. Vetter (Texas Department of Public Safety), and Officer Kenneth J. Copeland (San Marcos Police Department).
