Hays County Coordinates To Tackle Hunger

Hays County Food Bank is proud to call the Hill Country home. This community has shown how they can come together: whether it be through flood, fire, or even social issues like hunger.

For 12 years, residents and organizations have backed Turkeys Tackling Hunger, and this year is no different. Please help Hays County Food Bank thank these amazing businesses who believe everyone deserves a place at the table.

Title Sponsor

Night Hawk Frozen Foods, Inc. has been the Title Sponsor for this campaign for five years. Scott and Leanne Logan, the husband and wife team behind the brand, have been on the front lines since the beginning of their involvement. They have participated in the annual ‘Boxing Day’ every year, and in 2015, they moved the event to their very own business.

For a few hours in November, Night Hawk shuts down its normal operations and switches to filling boxes with traditional holiday foods that will go to families in need.

If residents visit on that day, residents will see dozens of employees in their Turkeys Tackling Hunger shirts, singing and dancing to the radio, with the Logans happily among the crowd. Last year, their son even joined in!

Diamond Sponsors

Lamar Advertising may not be based out of Hays County, but they have been helping Hays County Food Bank reach people who need help and people who can help for the past four years. Check out I-35 and see if residents can spot any of the food bank’s billboards.

Little Guys Movers is no stranger to helping out. The week before Thanksgiving, they loan out their trucks and muscle to help transport turkeys to distribution sites around the county. Keep an eye out if residents see them in the late evening at that time. That might not be a living room set they’re moving.

If residents have been around San Marcos in the summer, residents know what the favorite pastime is; it’s floating down the San Marcos River. The San Marcos Lions Club has been assisting with this fun for the past 40+ years, and proceeds from their tube rentals benefit local charities, such as Hays County Food Bank. So next time residents float, choose the Lions Club and give back while kicking back.

H-E-B is known for helping their communities, and the local H-E-B stores are no different. In addition to donating food daily, H-E-B is also donating funds to help purchase turkeys and traditional Thanksgiving food that will go into this year’s holiday meal boxes. So next time residents grocery shop, feel good about supporting a business that supports local families in need.

Tiff’s Treats in San Marcos is new to the party. This year they had a grand opening fundraiser and chose to pay it forward by donating to help feed the hungry. $5,000 was raised from selling chocolate chip cookies in one day. That’s a lot of cookies for a good cause!

Platinum Sponsors

The Buda Turkey Trot is also a newer annual tradition entwined with Turkeys Tackling Hunger. Since its inaugural event in 2017, the event has benefitted the food bank, growing larger each year. If residents would like to be a part of this fun Thanksgiving tradition and give back, visit www.budaturkeytrot.com.

The food bank’s last large sponsor is Ascension Seton Hays. The second-largest distribution of holiday meal boxes will take place in their hospital with the help of their staff. They are donating time, space, and supplies, such as tables and chairs. Seton was a part of last year’s distribution and had such a blast they wanted to continue the tradition.

Turkeys Tackling Hunger is in its lucky 13th year and is still in need of donations. Residents can donate at http://bit.ly/TTHDonate or donate to:

Hays County Food Bank
220 Herndon St.
San Marcos, TX 78666

The food bank will distribute 1,800-holiday meal boxes the week before Thanksgiving. A $30 donation can provide just one of these meal boxes to a family in need.

Meal boxes include a frozen turkey, corn, green beans, applesauce, pumpkin, instant potatoes, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Excess funds raised at this time will help the food bank operate all year, as the food bank works tirelessly 12 months a year to help keep families in need fed.
