The City of San Marcos Police and Fire Departments, along with San Marcos Hays County EMS, are teaming up with South Texas Regional Adaptive and Para Sports (STRAPS) and Morgan’s Wonderland for the third annual STRAPS STARS vs First Responders Wheelchair Basketball Games on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 11 AM to 3 PM at San Marcos High School, 2601 Rattler Road.
“There’s a pretty solid history of our folks losing these games against the STRAPS STARS teams,” said Interim Police Chief Bob Klett. “We appreciate the fact that they keep giving us a chance to try again, and we also enjoy helping to raise money for these talented athletes.”
This family-friendly event will include games, a charity raffle and food. Proceeds from the event will go to assist families of athletes with physical disabilities towards traveling expenses and equipment for events.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or online for $5. To learn more, volunteer time or donate to the raffle, email Detective Corporal Sandra Spriegel at sspriegel@sanmarcostx.gov.
STRAPS mission is to organize, promote, administer and conduct a variety of adaptive and Paralympic-style sports for wounded service members and veterans as well as other adults and youth.
STRAPS athletes strive to become role models and mentors to others with disabilities as they promote character development through sports. For more information, visit http://www.strapssports.com.
