On April 21, 2018, members of the Hays County Law Enforcement Explorer Post 1911 competed against sixty other police explorer teams from across Texas at the 2018 A.W.
Grimes Memorial Police Explorer Competition held at Round Rock High School. Post 1911 received 1st place in Crime Scene Investigation, 3rd place in Felony Traffic Stop, and 3rd place in Officer Down Rescue. The teams competed in 38 investigative and tactical scenarios.
The event was hosted by Round Rock Police Department Explorer Post 1096, and judges were from the Round Rock Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County Precinct One Constable’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Hays County Explorer Post 1911 was formed in 2013 at Lehman High School, Kyle, Texas and is part of the Explorer Club career education program for young men and women under the Learning for Life executive board, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America.
Explorer Post 1911 is under the leadership of Lori Smith, a Criminal Justice teacher at Lehman High School and a reserve deputy sheriff with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.
