Hays County Courthouse – Hays County Local Health Department today reports three new COVID-related fatalities; all three are males from San Marcos.
Two of the deceased are a father (in his 70s) and son (in his 50s). The third male was in his 80s. The County now has a total of 10 COVID-related deaths.
The health department reports 77 new cases, four new hospitalizations, two people released from the hospital, and 34 additional recoveries.
The demographics in today’s update include 66 new cases from the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The department also received about 2,400 negative lab reports from the recent Texas Division of Emergency Management test sites.
Epidemiologist Eric Schneider said the County’s total of lab-confirmed cases is 3,193; of those, 2,655 are considered active.
The total number of individuals considered recovered is 528.
The number of negative tests is 10,294. Schneider is awaiting results on 72 tests.
Hays County has had 68 total hospitalizations; 20 people are currently hospitalized.
“Regardless of your age, profession, gender, or any other factor, you have the power to help slow the spread of COVID-19,” Schneider said. “We are looking at a virus that may not severely hurt you, but you could pass it along to a loved one or friend who isn’t able to fight the virus.”
He added that there are simple, effective steps we all can take to slow the spread.
“If you don’t need to go out, stay home,” he said. “If you go out, remain distanced from others, wear a mask, and wash your hands often. When we work together for the safety of our community, we can make an impact.”

Epidemiologist Eric Schneider said the County’s total of lab-confirmed cases includes 50 additional tests from the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).
NOTE: If residents were tested at a TDEM site, they will receive their results directly from that agency, not the Hays County Local Health Department.

NOTE: Case and fatality information is updated daily at 1 pm and is compiled from information reported publicly by local health departments and through the DSHS public health regions. Counts are current as of that morning.
Because some jurisdictions report cases later in the day, local numbers may be more up to date. County case numbers may occasionally go down if the case investigation determines the person is a resident of another county or state.
Testing numbers show the number of test results for Texas residents reported to DSHS by public health and private labs. They do not include pending tests. Additional testing may be occurring by labs not yet reporting all results to DSHS. Unable to deduplicate total test numbers for private labs.
Demographic data comes from completed case investigations. The majority of cases in Texas are still under investigation.
Hospitalization and hospital capacity numbers are reported daily by hospitals through eight Hospital Preparedness Program providers that coordinate health care system preparedness and response activities in Texas.
