Hays County Judge Tests Positive For COVID-19

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra was absent Tuesday morning for the Hays County Commissioners Court.

According to a post on social media, Becerra and his family have tested positive COVID-19 on Monday.

A press release from Becerra’s office states Becerra recently received a notification that he may have been exposed to COVID and immediately drove to a Curative site to be tested.

“I am very lucky to live in a multifamily, multigenerational household,” Becerra said. “While I love this arrangement, during this pandemic, it is a reminder just how easy we can spread the virus among us.”

According to the press release, Becerra and his family are doing well at home, and was not experiencing symptoms Monday afternoon.

Becerra said in his post he fully expected to attend to the commissioners’ court meeting remotely and perform his duties as county judge.

However, Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe-Gonzales led the court Tuesday morning due to Becerra’s absence.

As of Monday, Becerra said he will be following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and quarantine until further notice.

“I’m posting about this immediately because I want to remind everyone this virus is extremely contagious,” Becerra said in his social post. “I know I’m asking a lot, but please consider gathering with your extended family remotely this holiday season.”
