On July 12, 2018, VFW Post #6441 from Wimberley, TX, presented Sheriff Gary Cutler with a $500 check to help support the Junior Deputy Academy.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office Junior Deputy Academy is an annual three-day event held twice each summer for children age’s eight to ten who reside within Hays County.
During the Academy sessions, the children are introduced to the multiple responsibilities of first responders. Some of the law enforcement topics covered are anti-bullying, water safety, use of force, crime scene investigations, SWAT, K-9, animal control, and traffic control.
Other Hays County first responders such as Medical and Fire, which are an integral part of this Academy that provide instruction in conjunction with others, to include the Greater San Marcos Youth Council and the Pedernales Electric Cooperative on electrical safety.
The donated funds assist in providing supplies needed during the academy.
