Hays County Proclaims July as National Park and Recreation Month

Left to right Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones, Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe, County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., Lead Park Specialist Jeremy Gonzales, Natural Resources Manager Brooke Leftwich and Precinct 4 Commissioner Ray Whisenant encourage all residents to go outside and enjoy a city, county, state or national park during National Park and Recreation Month in Hays County.

Hays County Proclaims July as National Park and Recreation Month

The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed July as National Park and Recreation Month and encourages everyone to visit a nearby park and enjoy nature.

“Parks are vital to our ecological and mental well-being,” Brooke Leftwich, Hays County Natural Resources Manager, said. “There are a number of lovely city, county and state parks in and around Hays County and we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to explore one or more of them. Unfortunately, the 5 Mile Dam Park Complex on Old Stagecoach Road is closed to evaluate and repair damage from the Memorial Day Weekend flood, but Jacob’s Well Natural Area and many other parks are open for fun and relaxation.”

Leftwich noted that the new reservation system is reducing traffic to the natural area and is allowing visitors to enjoy a less crowded swim area. To make a reservation to swim at Jacob’s Well or to find out more about any of the Hays County parks, visit www.co.hays.tx.us and choose Parks from the Offices dropdown.
