Hays County reports one COVID-related fatality, a Buda woman in her 40’s

EDITORIAL NOTE
According to the CDC, the State of Texas and Hays County Public Health all give the same disclaimer on all current counts and totals. “The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a very fluid situation, and it will continue to be. All case numbers and totals are subject to change. As new information becomes available, we will publish those updates.”

Hays County Courthouse, TX – Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) reports one COVID-related fatality; a Buda woman in her 40s.

The department also reports 17 new lab-confirmed cases along with one (1) new hospitalization and three (3) new hospital discharges since Wednesday’s update.

There are 19 additional persons considered recovered. The total number of persons considered recovered is 18,609. 

The current total of lab-confirmed cases for Hays County since the beginning of the pandemic is 18,991.

Hays County has 124 active cases. In the past 21 days, there have been 184 active cases.

Hays County has had 908 total COVID-related hospitalizations and five (5) people are currently hospitalized.

During a routine data audit, HCLHD removed 14 cases for out-of-county or duplicate records.

Upcoming ‘no appointment needed’ vaccine clinics:

  • Monday-Friday, Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines @ Live Oak Community Clinic, 401 Broadway, San Marcos, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Every Thursday and Friday – Pfizer vaccine @ CommuniCare, 2810 Dacy Ln., Kyle, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Pfizer vaccines are also offered by Curative at 210031 I-35, Kyle (Hays CISD Administration, in the old Transportation Building), on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

DEFINITIONS: CASE & CLINICAL CRITERIA

Confirmed: A case that is laboratory confirmed using a molecular diagnostic test (for example, PCR, Curative RCT-PCR, and Abbott ID Now RCT-PCR)

Probable: A case that:

Using a method approved or authorized by the FDA or designated authority meets presumptive laboratory evidence of

  1. Detection of specific antigen (Ag) in a clinical specimen, OR
  2. Detection of a specific antibody in serum, plasma, or whole blood indicative of a new or recent infection

AND meets clinical criteria

OR

Meets vital records criteria (death certificate lists COVID-19 disease or SARS-CoV-2 as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death) with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19.

Clinical criteria:

At least two of the following symptoms: fever (measured or subjective), chills, rigors, myalgia, headache, sore throat, new olfactory and taste disorder(s); OR

At least one of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing; OR

Severe respiratory illness with at least one of the following:

  1. Clinical or radiographic evidence of pneumonia, or
  2. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
