Hays County reports two COVID-related fatalities, a boy under 10-years-old from Austin and a San Marcos woman in her 90s

Staff Reports

Hays County Courthouse – Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) reports two (2) COVID-related fatalities between 12/7/2021-12/13/2021: a boy under 10 years old from Austin (Dripping Springs area of Hays County but with an Austin address), and a woman in her 90s from San Marcos.

The department also reports 179 new lab-confirmed cases along with 10 new hospitalizations and five (5) new hospital discharges since the last update. There are 67 additional persons considered recovered. The total number of persons considered recovered is 29,946.

The current total of lab-confirmed cases for Hays County since the beginning of the pandemic is 30,731. Hays County has 375 active cases. In the past 21 days there have been 450 active cases. Hays County has had 1,387 total COVID-related hospitalizations and fifteen (15) people are currently hospitalized. Of those, 11 people (73%) are unvaccinated.

With the upcoming holidays, the HCLHD reminds county residents to take precautions especially if traveling or they have family and friends coming to town. Some simple measures can help slow the spread of the virus, including frequent hand washing, social distancing and wearing a mask when indoors around large groups of people.

You may need a vaccination prior to travel to certain locales; see the list below for vaccine opportunities. Children age 5-11 are eligible to receive pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccine opportunities (hours may change due to holidays):

  • M-F, Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines @ Live Oak Community Clinic, 401 Broadway, San Marcos,
8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. (Please note the change in hours from previous releases.)
