Staff Reports

EDITORIAL NOTE
According to the CDC, the State of Texas and Hays County Public Health all give the same disclaimer on all current counts and totals. “The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a very fluid situation, and it will continue to be. All case numbers and totals are subject to change. As new information becomes available, we will publish those updates.”

Hays County Courthouse, TX – Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) reports two COVID-related fatalities since the update on December 31, 2021: a Buda woman in her 60s, a Kyle man in his 50s.

The department also reports 1,722 new lab-confirmed cases along with eight (8) new hospitalizations and 10 new hospital discharges.

There are 241 additional persons considered recovered. The total number of persons considered recovered is 30,671.

The current total of lab-confirmed cases for Hays County since the beginning of the pandemic is 35,259. Hays County has 4,172 active cases.

In the past 21 days there have been 4,530 active cases. Hays County has had 1,428 total COVID-related hospitalizations and 13 people are currently hospitalized. Of those, eight (8) people (62%) are unvaccinated.

With COVID-19 spreading rapidly in Hays County, we remind everyone of some simple measures to help slow the spread of the virus, including frequent hand washing, social distancing, and wearing a mask when indoors around large groups of people.

Additionally, a COVID-19 vaccine may reduce the risk of severe symptoms or death in those who test positive for the virus. Children age 5-11 are eligible to receive pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccine opportunities:

  • M-F, Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines @ Christus Trinity Clinic (formerly Live Oak), 401 Broadway, San Marcos, 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.
  • M-F, Walk-in Pfizer vaccine clinics @ CommuniCare, 2810 Dacy Ln., Kyle, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.
