On June 27, 2019, at 3:30 PM, Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler presented certificates to the newly graduated corrections officers of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office. Each new officer recently graduated from the Basic Corrections Training Academy.
The graduates attended four separate academies that consisted of more than 160 hours of intense training designed to meet or exceed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
Cadets learned basic concepts such as history, ethics, and liability; jail procedures including booking, records, and searches; and safety to include use of force, defense tactics, headcounts, and facility security. Officers also received training in de-escalation techniques, mental health interactions, and suicide prevention.
Sheriff Cutler congratulated each graduate as they begin their new career in the corrections field of law enforcement.
