Hays County Sheriff’s Office Opens Enrollment For Junior Deputy Academy

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for the 2019 Summer Junior Deputy Academy. There will be two separate Academies, one on the west side of Hays County and one on the east side of the county. The academies will run Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Dripping Springs: June 11 through June 13 – Dripping Springs Middle School, 111 Tiger Ln. Dripping Springs, TX 78620

APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 5, 2019 

Kyle: July 16 through July 18 – Lehman High School, 1700 Lehman Rd. Kyle, TX 78640

APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 10, 2019 

There are a limited number of seats available and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office will introduce the cadets to various functions of law enforcement including patrol, SWAT, crisis negotiation, criminal investigations, crime scene, K9 unit, and community services.

Other first responders such as Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services will also be on hand to demonstrate their services and related equipment.

Other presentations will be made by the Greater San Marcos Youth Council and Pedernales Electric Cooperative who will present a segment on electrical safety. The cadets will tour a local fire station and become familiar with the apparatus used by different emergency agencies.

At the completion of the Academy, the Cadets will have a special graduation ceremony on the last day in which everyone is invited to attend.

The Junior Deputy Academy is open to all children between the ages of 8-10 who reside in Hays County.
