Staff Reports
Hays County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of phone notices being left about active warrants and requests for pre-paid credit cards to pay the warrant fee.
According to reports, a local telephone number and the names of employees are being used to lend credibility to the scam.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office says, “We DO NOT conduct business this way, and residents should contact the Sheriff’s Office directly to confirm warrant inquiries.”
For warrant inquiries, contact the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 512-393-7810.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office advises residents to “always do your own research before paying any fees online or via telephone. Don’t rely on supplied telephone numbers, do an independent search and make contact on your terms. Verify names, positions and agencies.”
