Hays Food Bank Makes Last Call For Holiday Meals

Registration for Hays County Food Bank’s holiday meal box program may have closed, but there is still a chance for households who did not sign up.

This Friday, starting at 12:00 p.m., qualifying households can line up for a holiday meal box.

Meals will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. The food bank requests that only one member of the household visits the food bank, located at 220 Herndon Street in San Marcos since space is very limited.

Please park in the Jackson Chapel Parking Lot or along the side of the street. Nobody is allowed to park in the grass or in the neighbor’s driveways. The food bank asks that nobody shows up prior to 12:00 p.m. as partner agencies are scheduled to pick up their normal food orders.

Households who missed their pick up day are also invited to come to the final distribution. It is still first come, first served for households who have already registered but missed.

In order to qualify, households must:

• Have a combined income at or below the 185% of the Federal Poverty Level,

• Participate in one of the following government assistance program

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

  • Medicaid

• Have a temporary food emergency such as a natural disaster.

In 2016, Hays County Food Bank and its 20+ partner agencies distributed 679,456 pounds of food to an average of 8,500 food insecure residents each month.
