This year has been difficult for all of us. It has been especially difficult for victims of abuse in our community.
Many victims have seen an increase in abuse coupled with the isolation of living through a global pandemic.
Throughout this tough time, HCWC has been there for these victims.
“We have not paused in providing every single service to make sure our clients are safe, protected, and provided with the tools to better navigate their incredibly difficult situation,” HCWC said. “We are proud of the tireless work our staff, the board of directors, and our partners have done to help create a safer community, and we want to share our accomplishments for the year with you.”
2020 in Review
One of the highlights of the evening will be a discussion about the challenges that HCWC has faced this year, their response to those challenges as well as their accomplishments, and an overview of 2020.?
In this past year, HCWC served a total of 2,023 face to face (including virtually) victims of family violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and child abuse from Hays and Caldwell Counties.
HCWC answered a record 3,996 HELPLine crisis calls and responded to 112 individuals through their HEARTeam program at area hospitals, a 14% increase from last year, and, again, a record number.
Recognition Awards
Every year during the Annual Meeting, the organization spotlights the volunteers who have gone above and beyond to make a difference for victims of abuse.
However, one of the many changes they had to make this year due to Covid-19 was to put a pause on many volunteer activities.
“Prior to this suspension, we were the lucky beneficiaries of a group project involving several local businesses who donated all the materials and their time to upgrade and expand our children’s advocacy center, Roxanne’s House,” HCWC said. “Due to their contributions, we are able to provide better services to children in Hays and Caldwell Counties.”
The annual meeting will include a special recognition of these partners Brookfield, Home Aid Austin and Perfect Cuts as well as a video about the project.
Attendees will also hear from the partners about why they chose to contribute to Roxanne’s House.?
Voting for Board Members
In addition to recognizing these amazing organizations, HCWC will present their proposed slate of Board members for a vote, which includes: Katie McVaney, Samantha Tuzo, Beverly Anderson, Laura Dupont, Patsy Liao, Karolyn Tybor, Michele Hawthorne, Karen Lairsen-Jones, and Cindy Gonzalez.?
The annual meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 10, from 6 to 7 PM via Zoom. The public is encouraged to join.
