Voluntary Precautionary Recall For Certain Spiced Meats Due To Potential Undeclared Peanut Allergens

SAN ANTONIO, TX (Dec. 28, 2014) – H-E-B has issued a voluntary and precautionary recall for H-E-B bulk cryovac and tray packed Chorizo and H-E-B cryovac Pork Al Pastor due to undeclared peanut allergens in seasoning provided by Adams Food Flavors and Ingredients. There have been no reported illnesses related to this precautionary recall.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. H-E-B is asking customers that may have one of these products to return it to their H-E-B store for a full refund.

H-E-B was notified of this issue on the evening of Dec. 26, 2014 when Adams Food Flavors and Ingredients announced that one of the spice blend ingredient components had tested positive for peanut residue. This spice blend is added only to random weight, tray packed H-E-B Chorizo and Cryovac packed Pork Al Pastor. All impacted items have been removed.

Products being recalled include:

  • H-E-B Bulk Tray Pack Chorizo – Random Weight Sell By 11/4/2014 through Sell By 12/28/14
  • H-E-B Retail Tray Pack Chorizo – Random Weight Sell By 10/25/2014 through 1/4/2015
  • H-E-B Cryovac Pork Al Pastor – Random Weight Sell By 10/31/2014 through 1/9/2015

The voluntary recall has been issued by H-E-B, in an abundance of caution, to ensure the safety of its customers. “H-E-B is committed to the highest standards of food safety for our customers,” said Winell Herron, Group Vice President of Public Affairs and Diversity. “We take every precaution necessary to ensure the integrity and quality of the products sold in our stores.”

Any product within the sell by dates should be returned to any H-E-B store for a full refund. Customers with concerns or questions can contact H-E-B Customer Relations at 210-938-8357 or 1-800-432-3113 between the hours of 8AM and 5PM Monday through Friday.
