Hoffman Named Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach For Johnson HS

“I’m excited to accept this opportunity and I’m looking forward to being a part of the Johnson High School community and family,” said Hoffman.

Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright is pleased to announce the selection of Steve Hoffman as the first athletic coordinator and head football coach for Johnson High School, which is scheduled to open in August 2019. Hoffman was selected out of 100 applicants for the position.

“I’m excited to accept this opportunity and I’m looking forward to being a part of the Johnson High School community and family,” said Hoffman. “Together, we are going to build an awesome athletic program with a winning tradition. Get ready – the Johnson Jaguars are here!”

Hoffman is currently the head football coach at Corsicana High School and the assistant athletic director for Corsicana ISD. His 20 year career as a coach includes a number of winning seasons, championships, and awards. Most recently, he was named the 2018 District 8-5A DII Coach of the Year.

Hoffman began his career in Cleburne, Texas, as a teacher and coach in 1998. He also worked as a coach at Marion and Samuel Clemens High Schools before becoming the head football coach in 2007 for the Del Rio High School Rams. He coached that team to its first regional playoff win in school history in 2009.

While in Del Rio, Hoffman also led the school to district and area championships and earned a spot in the playoffs for five consecutive years. In 2012, he was named the District 29-5A Coach of the Year.

In 2013, Hoffman was named head football coach for the Corsicana Tigers. The Tigers have had four consecutive winning seasons, including district and bi district champions this year.

In addition to football, Steve has a passion for all sports and all students no matter their level of ability.

While working at the Schertz-Cibolo school district, Hoffman organized the district-wide Special Olympics for four years and trained the athletes to compete. At Johnson High School, he will oversee the entire athletics program.

“It’s an amazing week for the Johnson Jaguars. On Wednesday, we announced the hiring of our band director and today, we are thrilled to announce Steve Hoffman as our head football coach and athletic coordinator,” said Johnson High School Principal Brett Miksch. “Steve is going to take the Jaguars to great places. His talent and personality are the perfect fit for our school. We are building a foundation of excellence and success and we are off to a great start.”

Hoffman earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree from Sul Ross State University. He has five children and has been married to his wife, Emily, for 25 years. Hoffman begins work in Hays CISD in January.
