Home For The Holidays — Animal Shelter Offers $20 Animal Adoptions in December

The concept for the Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive began with a growing concern for the number of rescue facilities closing their doors during the holiday seasons.

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter continues its annual Home 4 the Holidays campaign  with “Take Me Home Adoptions Month” featuring $20 fees for all adoptions Dec. 1- 31.

Each adoption includes the pet’s spay or neuter, rabies vaccination, de-worming, microchip, city license, and heartworm test.

“With as many as 7 million homeless pets in the U.S., it is important everyone get involved to help save an orphaned animal this holiday season,” said Erin McCann, Animal Shelter Supervisor.  “We’re proud to be a part of this amazing campaign and are dedicated to placing pets in loving homes so they can experience a happy new life.”

Every year, San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter teams with thousands of animal organizations from around the world to participate in the annual Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive. The campaign, founded by the Helen Woodward Animal Center, runs from Oct. 1, 2017 through Jan. 1, 2018. The event unites over 3,500 partner organization in all 50 states and in 23 countries with a focused goal of placing orphaned pets into loving homes.

About Home 4 the Holidays

The concept for the Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive began with a growing concern for the number of rescue facilities closing their doors during the holiday seasons.  In seeking the perfect holiday gift, would-be adopters were forced to resort to pet stores or puppy mills.  Additionally, pet store staffers, untrained to assess the likelihood of a successful animal/family match, contributed to an increased number of pets sent to shelters once the season was over. Since its inception in 1999, the program has grown into the largest pet adoption drive in the world and has saved over 8 million pets across the globe.

Home 4 the Holidays partners with thousands of animal organizations dedicated to finding forever homes for orphaned pets.  Founded by Helen Woodward Animal Center, the campaign began in 1999 with just 14 participating animal shelters in San Diego County.  Since it began 18 years ago, Home 4 the Holidays has helped over 8 million families experience the joy of pet adoption, including more than 1.2 million pet adoptions last year alone.   For more information, please visit www.home4theholidays.org or email: h4th@animalcenter.org.
