HomeAid Austin Partners With Local Homebuilders To Construct 8 Tiny Homes For Chronically Homeless

AUSTIN – JUNE 18, 2020 – HomeAid Austin, in partnership with seven local homebuilders, is constructing eight tiny homes for Phase II of Community First! Village, a 51-acre master planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness.

Community First! Village is a development of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, a social outreach ministry that has been serving the homeless in Central Texas for more than two decades.

“These eight tiny homes in Phase II of Community First! Village represents eight individuals who will be lifted out of homelessness, able to earn a dignified living in the Village and rent a permanent, safe home of their own,” said Melissa Nicewarner Daly, Executive Director of HomeAid Austin.

Builders participating in HomeAid projects collaborate with their trade partners to procure discounts and donations to help fund construction, therefore minimizing costs for Homeless Care Providers—money they can reinvest in their missions.

“The invaluable contribution HomeAid makes to projects is through the coming together of homebuilding professionals to lift others up who are at risk of or are currently experiencing homelessness by doing what they do best— building homes,” Nicewarner Daly said.

Builder Captains for the Community First! Village group project include CCG Development, Cumby Development, David Weekley Homes, Lennar, Scott Felder Homes, Taylor Morrison and Trendmaker Homes.

As of March 2020, 180 formerly homeless men and women are currently living in Phase I of Community First! Village.
