Austinites looking to buying their first home and to possibly qualify for up to $40,000 in down payment assistance are encouraged to register for the free Housing Smarts Training Class with the City of Austin this summer.
Managed by the City’s Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department (NHCD), this eight-hour class is taught by certified instructors using the “Realizing the American Dream” curriculum.
Eligible participants must live within Austin city limits and earn a household income at or below 80 percent of Austin’s median family income (use this chart to see if you qualify).
Classes are held at the NHCD Offices, 1000 East 11th Street, Suite 400A. To register, consult the class schedule below, and submit the Housing Smarts application form by e-mail, or by mailing it to the address on the form.
Applications must be received at least 72 hours in advance of the class and are processed in the order they are received. You will be notified via email if you have been approved or need to provide more information.
