Hughson and Gleason Victorious In Runoff Election

In unofficial election results released by the Hays County Elections Office at 8:54 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 8, Jane Hughson has been re-elected Mayor and Mark Gleason has been elected to San Marcos City Council Place 5.

The Dec. 8 election will be canvassed and Mayor Hughson and Council Member Gleason will be sworn in on Monday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 PM at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins.

“Thank you, San Marcos, for the opportunity to continue to serve as your Mayor!  The City Council has a lot of work to do to increase the quality of life for every San Marcan,” said Mayor Hughson following last night’s results. “Our annual Visioning workshop will be held in early January and we will roll up our sleeves, set our Strategic Priorities, and continue working for ALL residents of San Marcos.”

While November 3 brought record voter turnout in Hays County with 71.2% of the 153,614 registered voters casting ballots in the election, the runoff election had much lower turnout.

Of the 69,014 registered voters eligible to vote in the San Marcos and Kyle runoff election, only 5,940 ballots were cast for an 8.6% voter turnout.
