I-35 Mainlanes To Close In Alternating Directions Near St. Johns Avenue

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close the I-35 mainlanes between US 183 and US 290 in alternating directions this week to set concrete bridge box beams for the new north-to-southbound turnaround bridge at St. Johns Avenue, weather permitting.

On Wednesday night, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., the southbound I-35 mainlanes will be reduced to two lanes between US 183 (Barwood Park) and St. Johns Avenue.

Beginning at 12 a.m. until 2 a.m., the southbound mainlanes will fully close and traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at the US 183 exit (exit 240).

Detoured traffic will travel through the US 183 intersection and may re-enter I-35 south of St. Johns Avenue.

Southbound I-35 traffic will take a right to get to US 183 northbound. (See detour map.)

On Thursday night, Sept. 26, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., northbound I-35 mainlanes will be reduced to two lanes between US 290 and St. Johns Avenue.

Beginning at 12 a.m. until 2 a.m., the northbound I-35 mainlanes will fully close to complete beam installation.

The northbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover bridge will also be closed.

Northbound mainlane traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at the US 183 south exit (exit 239) and can re-enter I-35 at the next entrance ramp north of US 183.

Northbound I-35 traffic wishing to travel north on US 183 will use the frontage roads to access northbound US 183. (See detour map.)

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, as delays are expected.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the upcoming closures.

TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
