I-35, Posey Road Closures, Detours, Traffic Alerts To Know Before You Start Your Weekly Commute

TxDOT knows you’ve got to get where you need to go.

While construction is tough on everyone, TxDOT is trying to do
everything they can to minimize disruptions.

for Week of March 17 – March 23

I-35 AT POSEY ROAD

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project will construct a new overpass on I-35 over Posey Road, add two new U-turns in each direction at Posey Road, perform ramp reversals and convert two-way frontage roads to one-way.

Currently, the I-35 mainlanes go under Posey Road. The new configuration will have the I-35 mainlanes going over Posey Road.

HAPPENING NOW- MARCH

  • Watch for northbound I-35 frontage road closures nightly between York Creek Road and Posey Road. Exit #199 for Posey Road will also be closed Sunday night. Northbound frontage road traffic will shift to a one-way configuration Sunday night. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Wednesday, March 19

 

  • Watch for southbound I-35 frontage road closures nightly between York Creek Road and Posey Road. Exit #196 for York Creek Road will also be closed Monday night. Southbound frontage road traffic will shift to a one-way configuration Monday night. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Tuesday, March 19

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The project will reconstruct the bridge structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, as well as the frontage road bridge over Williamson Creek.

New U-turn bridges will be added in both directions at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and the I-35 mainlanes will be widened to incorporate shoulders and extended entrance/exit lanes to allow for better merging.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements are also being made, and new safety lighting is being installed.

  • Westbound William Cannon Drive right-turn lane closed at I-35 | Until Friday, March 22

 

  • Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly between Slaughter Lane and Boggy Creek Drive. Exit #228 will also be closed. | 10 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Wednesday, March 20

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed daily between William Cannon Drive and Foremost Drive. | 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22

 

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed daily between William Cannon Drive and Boggy Creek Drive. | 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22

 

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed daily between William Cannon Drive and Stassney Lane.| 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22

 

  • I-35 north to southbound U-turn closed daily at Stassney Lane.| 9 AM until 3 PM Tuesday, March 19 to Friday, March 22

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed daily between Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive.| 9 AM until 3 PM Tuesday, March 19 to Friday, March 22

 

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed nightly between William Cannon Drive and Nelms Drive. The entrance ramp from William Cannon Drive will also be closed.| 8 PM until 5 AM Tuesday, March 19 to Friday, March 22

I-35 AT OLTORF ST.

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads.

Additionally, construction of new extended entrance/exit lanes for mainlanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits.

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane daily between St. Edwards Drive and Woodward Street| 9 AM until 3 PM Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22

 

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed nightly at Woodland Avenue. The Woodland Avenue Exit #232B will also be closed.| 8 PM until 5 AM Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LN. TO US 290 EAST

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project includes main-lanes and frontage road reconstruction and the addition of three new flyovers at US 183.

The project also includes reconstruction of the St. Johns Avenue Bridge, the addition of frontage road U-turns on both sides, intersection bypass lanes under St. Johns Avenue in both directions, extended entrance/exit lanes, and ramp and shoulder improvements.

  • I-35 left lane closed nightly in both directions between US 290 East and US 183.| 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Friday, March 22

 

  • Southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed nightly between Barwood Park and US 183. Ramps will remain open. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Friday, March 22

 

  • I-35 south to northbound U-turn closed nightly at US 183. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Friday, March 22

 

  • Southbound I-35 left two lanes closed nightly between US 183 and St. Johns Avenue | 11 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Friday, March 22

I-35 AT FM 3406

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The intersection of FM 3406 and the I-35 frontage roads are being improved, and the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 is being reconstructed.

The FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd) bridge will close to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will detour to the newly constructed U-turn Bridge.

I-35 FROM US 79 TO SH 45 NORTH

PROJECT ACTIVITY | New braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) are being constructed along the northbound I-35 mainlanes between Hesters Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts.

  • Various I-35 frontage road closures nightly in both directions between Travis County and Bell County. | 9 PM until 5 AM Sunday, March 17 through Friday, March 22

I-35 AT COUNTY ROAD 305

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The project will reconstruct the County Road 305 bridge and realign County Road 304 East to connect to the newly constructed bridge. Pedestrian enhancements will also be made within the project limits
