I-35, Posey Road Detours & Closures That Could Trip You Up This Week

TxDOT knows you’ve got to get where you need to go.

I-35 CAPITAL AREA CORRIDOR MOBILITY

Closures, Detours, Traffic Alerts

for May 23 – 29

I-35 AT POSEY ROAD  4

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project will construct a new overpass on I-35 over Posey Road, add two new U-turns in each direction at Posey Road, perform ramp reversals and convert two-way frontage roads to one-way.

Currently, the I-35 main lanes go under Posey Road. The new configuration will have the I-35 main lanes going over Posey Road.

Closures are weather permitting

  • Posey Road bridge closed at I-35
    ° Until further notice
  • Northbound I-35 exit (#199) for Posey Road and exit (#200) for Centerpoint Road are closed
    ° Until further notice
  • Southbound I-35 entrance ramp closed permanently at Centerpoint Road
    ° Until further notice
  • Northbound and southbound I-35 left lane closed continuously from York Creek Road to Centerpoint Road
    ° Wednesday, May 27 at 9 PM. through Saturday, July 25 at 5 AM

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The project will reconstruct the bridge structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, as well as the frontage road bridge over Williamson Creek.

New U-turn bridges will be added in both directions at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and the I-35 main lanes will be widened to incorporate shoulders and extended entrance/exit lanes to allow for better merging.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements are also being made, and new safety lighting is being installed.

I-35 AT OLTORF ST.

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads.

Additionally, construction of new extended entrance/exit lanes for main lanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits.

  • Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly from SH 71 to Woodland Avenue. The Oltorf Street and Woodland Avenue entrance and exit ramps will be closed
    ° Tuesday, March 26 through Wednesday, March 27 from 8:30 PM until 5:30 AM
  • Northbound I-35 flyover closed nightly at SH 71
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Wednesday, May 27, 8:30 PM until 5:30 AM

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LN. TO US 290 EAST

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project includes main lanes and frontage road reconstruction and the addition of three new flyovers at US 183.

The project also includes reconstruction of the St. Johns Avenue Bridge, the addition of frontage road U-turns on both sides, intersection bypass lanes under St. Johns Avenue in both directions, extended entrance/exit lanes, and ramp and shoulder improvements.

    ° Through mid-2020
  • Eastbound and westbound Rutherford Lane closed continuously at the I-35 frontage road
    ° Through mid-July
  • Southbound US 183 exit ramp closed at Cameron Road
    ° Through June 2020
  • South to north I-35 U-turn closed daily at US 183
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 from 7 AM. until 5 PM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed daily from Blackson Avenue to US 290 East
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 from 9 AM. until 3 PM
  • Southbound US 183 frontage road closed nightly from I-35 to Providence Avenue
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound US 183 right lane closed nightly at Cameron Road
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 from 9 PM. until 5 AM
  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed nightly at US 183. The Rundberg Lane entrance ramp will also be closed
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 from 9 PM. until 5 AM
  • Southbound US 183 closed from I-35 to Cameron Road. The Cameron Road exit will also be closed
    ° Thursday, May 28 from 8 PM until 5 AM

I-35 FROM 1431 TO FM 3406 (NORTHBOUND)

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The intersection of FM 3406 and the I-35 frontage roads are being improved, and the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 is being reconstructed.

The FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd) bridge will close to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will detour to the newly constructed U-turn Bridge.

  • Northbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane from Jeffrey Way to the RM 1431 exit ramp
    ° Through early 2021

I-35 FROM US-79 TO SH-45 NORTH

PROJECT ACTIVITY | New braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) are being constructed along the northbound I-35 main lanes between Hesters Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts.

I-35 AT PARMER LANE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Reduced congestion, improved mobility at Parmer Lane and Lamar Boulevard, operational efficiency, more reliable travel times, lower fuel consumption.

The start date is summer 2019 and is scheduled to be completed summer of 2021. The construction costs are estimated to be $24.6 million.

  • Eastbound Parmer Lane bridge right lane closed at I-35
    ° Through mid-2020
  • Northbound I-35 right lane closed nightly at Center Ridge Drive. The Parmer Lane entrance ramp will also be closed
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed at Parmer Lane
    ° Tuesday, May 26 from 8 AM until 4 PM
  • Eastbound and westbound Parmer Lane left lane closed nightly from I-35 to Center Lake Drive
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Wednesday, May 28 from 9 PM until 5 AM

PROJECT OVERVIEW | These lane closures are associated with ongoing maintenance activities throughout the corridor.

  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed nightly from Yarrington Road to River Ridge Parkway. The Yarrington Road exit (#210) will also be closed
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Wednesday, May 27 from 8:30 PM until 5:30 AM
  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed nightly at Onion Creek Parkway
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound and southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed nightly at Howard Lane. The north to south I-35 U-turn at Howard Lane will also be closed
    ° Tuesday, May 26 through Wednesday, May 27 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound and southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed nightly at Braker Lane
    ° Wednesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 28 from 9 PM. until 5 AM
