IH-35 TRAFFIC UPDATE

I-35 will be down to one lane in both directions between the Blanco River and FM 150 from 9pm tonight, Wednesday, until 5 a.m Thursday April 7th, so TxDOT can realign ramps.

The two inside lanes in both directions will be closed.

What is the project?

Better access to and from Interstate 35 in Hays County has ramped up. The Texas Department of Transportation, in partnership with Hays County, has completed several I-35 ramp modifications between FM 2001 and RM 150 (Kyle Crossing) to help keep motorists moving safely and efficiently.

The new northbound entrance ramp between Kyle Crossing and Robert S. Light Boulevard replaced a shorter ramp further south. A new northbound exit for FM 2001 has replaced a shorter exit further north, and a new northbound exit for Robert S. Light Boulevard has also opened.

In all, the nine mile, $11.6 million project involved the construction and reconfiguration of eight entrance and exit ramps to improve traffic flow on the I-35 main lanes and to provide greater distance along the frontage roads between exit ramps and intersecting streets.

“Keeping everyone safe on the road is our first priority,” said Victor Vargas, TxDOT area engineer. “The new and modified ramps offer easier, safer access to and from I-35 throughout this rapidly-growing area of Hays County. We are working to do everything we can to get motorists safely to their destinations and home to their families at the end of each day.”

In addition to these ramp modifications, the project included widening the Robert S. Light bridge and constructing seven U-turn bridges at Kyle Crossing, FM 1626, Robert S. Light and FM 2001. Construction on the project began in January 2014. The contractor for the project was Lane Construction.
