Intersection improvements to begin on U.S. 290 West in Dripping Springs

Note: This story has been corrected. The original story stated the addition of a traffic signal within the scope of work. There will not be a traffic signal installed with the current work to be done.

Hays County Courthouse, TX – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will construct a minor realignment of Martin Road at the intersection and a dedicated right-turn lane addition on US 290 West including paving, drainage, signing, and pavement markings.

This right turn will allow for more volume to travel through the intersection reducing travel times, as well as improve safety at the intersection. The work is expected to begin on or about September 24, 2021, with targeted completion in the spring of 2022.

“This project will alleviate some of the traffic that tends to back up in the area and vastly improve safety at a key intersection on US 290,” said Commissioner Walt Smith, Pct. 4. “While the addition of turn lanes is a vast improvement, it’s just a start. We are committed to working with TxDOT to ensure folks feel safe on our roadways in Hays County.”

The project, valued at $1,353,925.37, is being funded through the 2016 voter-approved Hays County Road Bonds program. The Design Engineer is FSC, Inc. and the Contractor is Relmco, Inc. TxDOT will be responsible for managing and inspecting the construction.

Travelers in the area should expect delays during that time period. For any questions about the project, please contact Hays County Transportation at 512-560-7734 or email winton.porterfield@co.hays.tx.us.
