Jacob’s Well Natural Area Swim Season To Start With New Hours, New Facebook Page

“To protect the natural area and allow our visitors to fully enjoy the artesian spring, we limit access to 60 swimmers for each of the two-hour swim blocks,” Brooke Leftwich, Natural Resources Manager for Hays County, said.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Swim season for Jacob’s Well Natural Area begins May 1.

New hours for the JWNA are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, with swimming from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in two-hour time blocks.

Any change to those hours made necessary by weather conditions or other unplanned events will be posted on the new JWNA Facebook page, www.facebook.com/JacobsWellOfficial, as well as the county website at http://www.co.hays.tx.us/jwna.aspx and the Parks Information Line at 512-214-4593.

The Facebook page also includes photos and information about the wildlife and plants that visitors can enjoy along the hiking trails as well as information about special events.

“To protect the natural area and allow our visitors to fully enjoy the artesian spring, we limit access to 60 swimmers for each of the two-hour swim blocks,” Brooke Leftwich, Natural Resources Manager for Hays County, said.

Reservations for swimming must be made online at https://jwna.checkfront.com/reserve with payment by credit or debit card (no cash or checks) at the park entrance.

Hays County does not charge a fee for parking or entry into the natural area, only for swimming in Cypress Creek at the spring best known as Jacob’s Well.

Children under five years of age are not charged to swim; children ages 5-12, service members/veterans, persons age 60 and above and Hays County residents pay $5. All others pay $9.

Visitors can bring a picnic lunch and there are plenty of picnic tables available (bring a cooler size you can carry the distance from the parking lot).

Alcohol, glass, pets and radios are not allowed on the property and SCUBA diving is not allowed at Jacob’s Well. For a complete list of rules and regulations, visit http://www.co.hays.tx.us/jwna.aspx.
