On March 2, 2018, Jarred Farmer, 24, was convicted and sentenced to prison for several pending cases in Hays County District Court, including the 2016 Intoxication Manslaughter of Steven Vasquez in Kyle, Texas.

Farmer was charged with accidentally killing Steven Vasquez on January 7, 2016, while driving intoxicated. At the time of the accident, Farmer was on deferred adjudication probation for a 2014 drug possession charge.

An investigation by the Kyle Police Department led to Farmer’s arrest on the manslaughter charge in December 2016.  Shortly afterwards, narcotics investigators presented additional charges against him for possession of alprazolam (the chemical name for Xanax).

Farmer reached a plea agreement in the pending cases with the Hays County District Attorney’s Office which called for him to enter a plea of guilty to both the Intoxication Manslaughter and the new drug possession charges. As part of the plea agreement, Farmer also pled true to violating his probation.

He was sentenced to ten years in prison for the Intoxication Manslaughter, twelve years in prison for the new drug charge, and six years in prison in the probation violation case. The sentences will be served concurrently (All crimes the defendant is found guilty or pled guilty to, can be served at the same time).
