NEW ORLEANS – Coming off a record-breaking performance this past weekend, T’Mond Johnson was selected as the Sunbelt Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. It is the fourth weekly conference honor in the junior’s career and second during the outdoor season.
Johnson began the outdoor campaign by breaking Texas State’s shot put record at the Roadrunner Invitational. He surpassed the previous school record on his third attempt with a distance of 19.29m.
The Killeen, Texas native topped his mark on his sixth and final attempt as he unleashed the shot and saw it fly 19.59m (64-3.25). The distance is the best in the SBC by nearly 10 feet and ranks third in the nation.
Three of his attempts in the shot put ended up ranking in the top 10 in the country across all competitions last week.
Along with his performance in the shot put, Johnson recorded the fourth best discus throw of the year in the conference at 50.08m (164-4).
This weekend will see Johnson and the Bobcats compete at both the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational.
