For the month of July, Main Street is awarding the Downtown Business of the Month award to San Marcos Athletic Club for their contributions to both Downtown San Marcos and the local community.
“San Marcos Athletic Club exemplifies staying power and commitment to beatification,” said Main Street Program

SMAC first opened its doors in 1976 under the ownership of Glenn Price.
The current owner Bobby Warren, a Texas State University alumni, managed the gym for Mr. Price from 1977 through 1982, at which point he decided to purchase the business.
An impressive aspect of SMAC is their loyal customer base, and some customers have consistently visited the athletic club since its opening in 1976. SMAC also contributes to the San Marcos community by cleaning the storefront and the adjacent alley every day.
This not only keeps clutter off the streets, but is also an example of how we can all do our part in keeping Downtown San Marcos beautiful.
The San Marcos Main Street Program chooses one downtown business each month for the Downtown Business of the Month award. The award is presented to a business that exemplifies the following eight criteria: growth, staying power, innovation, response to adversity, contribution to community- oriented projects, marketing & promotional efforts, curb appeal, and beautification.
If you know of a business within the Downtown San Marcos area which fulfills the above criteria and is worthy of this award, please contact Main Street at mainstreetinfo@sanmarcostx.gov.
