Kyle Train Depot is one of 19 historic restoration and rehabilitation projects that Preservation Texas will recognize at its 2017 Honor Awards Ceremony and Reception later this month.

Kyle, TX — In addition to celebrating its 100th birthday this Saturday, the Kyle Railroad Depot just received an award from Preservation Texas, a private, nonprofit member-supported organization dedicated to protecting the historic resources of Texas.

The special award ceremony will take place on Feb. 27 in Waco, Texas.

“We are very excited about receiving this award from Preservation Texas,” Hays County Historical Commission Chairwoman Kate Johnson said. “This really validates our efforts and our goal of restoring this beautiful piece of Texas history.”

Kyle Train Depot is one of 19 historic restoration and rehabilitation projects that Preservation Texas will recognize at its 2017 Honor Awards Ceremony and Reception later this month.

This award recognizes successful efforts to save irreplaceable and authentic endangered historic places in Texas.

The description on the organization’s website says, “The Kyle Depot (1917) was threatened by neglect until it was restored and opened as the Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center in 2016.”

Spearheaded by the Hays County Historical Commission and funded with mostly private donations, the Kyle Train Depot now serves as a heritage center and is open to visitors every Sunday and on the second Saturday of the month during Kyle Market Days.

The birthday celebration will take place from 1- 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. Visitors will enjoy guided tours, a documentary titled “Next Stop Kyle” and, of course, cake. Visit the city’s website to learn more about the Kyle Train Depot.
