Kyle Police arrest man responsible for infant’s death

KYLE — The Kyle Police Department has arrested Mark Anthony Briones, 32, of Kyle, in connection to the death of a 7-month-old infant.

On Monday, June 20, the Kyle Police Department was called to Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin for a report of an infant being treated for life threatening injuries that had occurred at a home in Kyle. The infant was initially brought by her mother to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Dell Children’s Medical Center. The Kyle Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the child’s injuries.

On Thursday, June 23, the Kyle Police Department was notified that the infant had died as a result of the injuries.

Police uncovered during their investigation that Briones, a roommate in the household, was left in charge of the infant at the time her injuries occurred. Further information and evidence obtained through the police department’s investigation led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Briones for Capital Murder of Person Under 10 Years of Age, a capital felony.

Kyle Police arrested Briones at his home in Kyle on Tuesday, June 28. He is currently booked in the Hays County Jail.
