Kyle Releases Weather Updates, Meeting Postponements & More

The winter weather in the region has caused issues and interruptions of service across Hays County.

Due to the current conditions and forecasted weather for the next several days, here are the CIty of Kyle’s latest updates.

  • The city of Kyle Offices will be closed Tuesday, February 16th
  • City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 16th has been postponed to Tuesday, February 23rd
  • Roads are still very icy and many street lights are out: do not drive unless it is an emergency.  Staying home is your best option but if you must drive, visit drivetexas.org for updates on current road conditions.
  • Water Alert: As of 2 PM on February 15th, the City of Kyle is asking that all water use be suspended until further notice unless needed for emergencies. Emergencies can include dripping faucets to prevent the bursting of pipes and for drinking. Although service from GBRA of Texas (our surface water supplier) has been brought back online, power outages locally have prevented full water service from being restored and we are close to running out of water supply in Kyle.
  • Boil water notices have been issued by Monarch (https://www.swwc.com/h2ome/learning-center/how-to-understand-a-boil-water-notice/) for certain Kyle neighborhoods. Visit the website for info and updates.
  • Power Outages: Residents are advised to be prepared for additional power outages, including flashlights, batteries, extra blankets, and layers of clothing. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is urging Texans to conserve power in their homes and businesses as much as possible during the extreme weather. For info and updates, visit https://outages.pec.coop.
  • Cold Weather Shelters: Those without electricity can check with one of the cold weather shelters to see if they have room to be used as a warming station. Please call ahead in case they are at capacity and cannot accept anyone else into the facility. Please note the correct number for the Salvation Army in San Marcos is 512-938-2596. Also try the Austin Disaster Relief Network hotline for additional resources: 512-806-0800. Find the full list of cold weather shelters on the Hays County website.
  • Warming Centers: Temporary portable “Warming Centers” for temporary relief have been deployed by Hays County, Hays CISD, and the City of Kyle for Kyle residents at the locations below. The buses will be at locations until 7 p.m. on 2/16.
